The Nineteenth-Century rediscovery of the Oratory of S. Giorgio offers the opportunity to question the conservation methods, historical analysis and creative reception of fourteenth-century painting in this crucial period for the establishment of art history as a scientific discipline. This essay reconstructs the historical circumstances of the discovery of Altichiero’s frescoes and the consequent discussions among connoisseurs concerning the autography and the cultural value of these paintings. In the sixteen century Poland was well known in Italy, especially in the Republic of Venice and in its University in Padua. Padua was the theater of two rides: the Polish queen Bona Sforza (1556) and the Polish king Henry III de Valois (1574) had a great impact on getting Polish culture and history in Veneto, and still now the oral tradition of the legend about the crested hen from Poland is a symbol of culinary culture and the most well-known Polish 'traveler’.

Artykuł przedstawia tzw. metrykę nacji polskiej na Uniwersytecie Padewskim, przechowywaną w Archiwum Historycznym Uniwersytetu Padewskiego. Dwa tomy wpisów przedstawicieli Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów, studiujących lub tylko przebywających w Padwie pomiędzy rokiem 1592 a 1745, określano dawniej m. in. jako Album, Codicilli, Liber Nationis, Liber Congregationis s. Stanislai. Jest to unikatowe źródło do badań dziejów życia umysłowego Polski w dobie późnego renesansu i baroku. Ten wyjątkowy materiał archiwalny stanowi także niezastąpioną pomoc w badaniach nad obecnością Polaków na uniwersytetach włoskich, w tym głównie Padewskim, oraz historią podróży edukacyjno-kulturalnych.
